The Neighborhood Mailbox Project
Share your story
with a neighbor
You don't have to be a writer; you just need a real story.
Take a minute to read this before you write ✦
Keep it human and authentic
Write the way you would speak to someone you care about: with honesty, care, and without judgment. What someone really needs is a friend, not perfect or borrowed words.
Start from where you were
Begin with your experience, then followed by the lesson. Being vulnerable about the hard part is what makes the hope believable.
Offer perspective
Share what helped you see things differently, and what you wish someone had said when you were standing in that same place.
Please do not include
- Medical or clinical advice
- Graphic descriptions of trauma (Focus on the path forward instead)
- Names of specific people/places, or promotional content
- Religious, political, or inflammatory content
- Anything you would not say to a loved one going through a difficult time
From,
Your neighbor
